We're offering this nine-week course at Philpott Church because we believe it's a great way to cultivate deeper faith in Christ by developing greater biblical literacy among our people. We believe RB4L addresses the issues that a lot of us struggle with in our Bible reading. Can you relate to any of these?
What difference does it make what part of the Bible we read, as long as we read it?
How can we know that the Bible we have is really what God wanted us to hear?
How do the various parts of the Bible fit together?
Who's to say what a passage means in a certain text? Isn't it up to the reader to decide what the Bible means?
Isn't it enough for a Christian to just focus on the New Testament?
Are all the parts of the Bible really relevant today? What do these stories, letters, and laws have to do with us?
We're not Bible scholars; we find all this talk about context and interpretation kind of intimidating.
We don't get much out of our personal Bible reading, so we usually don't do any.
Who is this course designed for?
Read the Bible for Life is a course designed to help us overcome our difficulty with reading and understanding this book of books. It's friendly, fun, and involves some reading, watching a DVD, and discussion of study questions. Even though it's taught by some of the most respected biblical scholars alive today, they speak plain English. In the course, we believe you'll gain:
a better sense of how to best read and understand the various parts of the Bible
a deeper appreciation of the Bible as a single, unified story about God.
a firmer grasp of the crucial themes of Scripture that thread their way powerfully and beautifully from the beginning through to the end
the tools you need to apply the Scripture more personally to your life.
