Help with blogging

As requested, I prepared a webpage with instructions on how to use this blogging software — check it out at http://www.getchurch.org/oxygen/bloghelp.shtml (I am nothing if not at your service!)

Let me know if you have any other questions/things I should add to the help file or if you find something doesn’t work properly.

- Todd

Bocce and Frisbee

For anybody who’s interested (and actually reads this in time), a couple of us are getting together Saturday afternoon around 2:00 at Churchill Park (just north of King and Cline St. in Westdale) to play bocce and/or frisbee and/or frisbee golf — we’ll meet (weather permitting of course) at the fieldhouse between the two levels of the park

Camping

this is all a little new to me - I’ll think I’ll probably email everyone as well.

It seems that the weeekend I proposed in August was a bust - mostly the day. Is camping on either the weekend of the 13th, or 27th better for anyone?

Blogs

This blog has an RSS feed, BTW, so if anyone uses Bloglines to view blogs, you can add oXyGen blogs to your list.

Golf anyone?

A couple of us have talked about golfing on an upcoming weekend.  So far the suggestion has been Southern Pines on Upper James in Mount Hope ($34 for 18 holes) although time and place is subject to discussion.  If anyone else is interested, reply here or email me at mlogan@loganenvironmental.com.

Housesitter Wanted!
Rick and Martha are going on vacation for two weeks August 1-16 and are looking for somebody to housesit for them while they are gone (they have air conditioning and you can enjoy Rick’s “Incredible Hulk” collectibles in person!)  If you are interested, e-mail Martha at martharbradford@yahoo.com

oXyGEN Blogs are Alive!

Excellent - we are good to go with blogging!  Aaron, perhaps you could post something outrageously controversial here to get things going? happy

Header, Footer, and Body

There are three files in your blogs directory which you can modify to change the appearance of your weblog.

These files are called story.lite, head.lite, and footer.lite.

If you wish, you can make multiple templates by changing their extensions, for example, story.1, head.1, and footer.1.

popblog.pl (For checking POP account for blogs) Change pop server, email address, password

postblog.pl (For posting new blogs via a browser) Change password, body elements, and more

pollxn.cgi - The maximum number of comments allowed, email address(es) to receive notification of new posts, etc.

Making a New Post

When you make a new post, there will be three boxes for input:

1. WILL BE SAVED IN

This is the folder path in which the file will be saved. You can add folders, or delete folders from this list to save the file wherever you want.

2. TITLE

This is the name of the post.

3. BODY

The big box is where the content of your post is.

Googe Highlight

Google Highlight Plugin Summary:

When a search is done on Google and your blog is returned in Google’s results, the keywords which the user search for will be highlighted on your page just as if the user had clicked ‘cached’ in Google’s results page.

Google Tag

There is a plugin installed called Google tag. You can automatically create a link to a Google search by enclosing an HTML style tag around a search phrase.

The following is an example:
googletag

AutoLinks

There is a file in your blog directory which you can access using FTP.

This file is called autolinks, and it contains a list of links and keywords.

When the script finds these keywords it replaces them with a link automatically.

So if you refer to ‘Google’ in your post, you can set it up to automatically turn this word into a link to Google.

This is useful for sites which you refer to regularly.

TimeZone Plugin

Your server may be located in a different time zone than you are. You may want the time zone of your posts to appear in the same time zone as your location.

Use FTP to access the cgi-bin/blosxom_plugin/timezone plugin. Make changes to it and upload it again.
