Serving Outside the Church
At Philpott, we are seeking to be less of an inward focus church, and to instead offer evidence of God's love to our community. That's why we've started 'H2O,' which stands for 'His Hands Outstretched.'
Our first project in April of 2005 was a downtown garbage cleanup. Almost 200 individuals donned gloves and grabbed garbage bags. Together we were able to gather enough garbage to make a serious dent, but more needs to be done.
There are other projects we're involved with, including updating a local schools library, planting a garden for this same school, baking cookies for children at lunch time, making sandwiches for homeless people, and more.
Helping the poor and caring for disfortunate in our city is more about us that it is about them. We need this opportunity. Jesus told us that as we care for the unlovely, we're actually caring directly for him. What better reason could there be?
